Dr Marie-Rose Mercoiret is a sociologist at CIRAD. She has specialised in rural institutions and developing smallscale farmers organisations, and is based at the CIRAD scientific headquarters at Montpellier (France). She has carried out research and outreach programmes in many developing countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
